IMMF held a very successful panel discussion on Friday the 13th of April at the Business Academy in Musikmesse, Frankfurt. Jake Beaumont-Nesbitt moderated the panel on the topic “Strategies and tools for successfully preparing and ultimately stimulating Music Export in Europe”

Over the course of the last 10 years there has been an explosive growth in both publicly and privately funded European initiatives aimed at preparing artists for international careers and/or stimulating music export across the European borders. This has resulted in many different actions, strategies and tools being launched such as national music export offices and music industry conferences & showcase festivals. This panel had invited two experts from the music export office and conference & showcase festival field to share their experiences, with the European Commission’s Creative Europe – Culture Unit. Expect an honest and open discussion about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats related to these different European artist career strategies and tools, which will also touch upon how the European Commissions new “music moves Europe” initiative may come to influence and play a role with all of this in the nearby future.

Speakers:

  • Marton Naray (Czech Republic/Hungary), Director, SoundCzech/Czech Music Office (Music Export Office) – Publicly funded
  • Jeffrey Burns (Ireland), General Manager, youbloom Dublin (Showcase festival & conference) – Privately funded
  • Fiona Deuss-Frandi (Italy), Project Advisor, within Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission – Public Institution
